Palworld Roadmap Includes Lots of Exciting New Features, Including Co-Op Cross-Play
Palworld developer Pocketpair has outlined several new updates headed to the early-access creature-collecting survival game in the future, with co-op cross-play being one of the big features in development. While there’s no set date yet for when these will be available, Pocketpair did break the list into “major” and “other improvements” that fans can expect to see implemented ahead of Palworld’s full release.
In addition to crossplay, the developer says it is also working on world transfers for Pals, new ways to strengthen the critters, and new technologies for players to research. Excitingly, Pocketpair also mentioned game collaborations, with survival-crafting game Terraria listed here again. As for other tweaks, the studio listed improvements to world-object-placement, base Pals, and overall game optimization.

Palworld’s last big update was released last year in December, and it added a brand-new island to explore, more Pals, new gameplay mechanics, and lots more. One of the early big hits of 2024, Palworld was noted for its similarities to Pokemon, leaving many to speculate if legal trouble was on the way. In September, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair in Japanese court, alleging infringement on its patents. Nintendo is seeking an injunction against Palworld and around $33,000 in fees to both it and The Pokemon Company.
Pocketpair revealed that the three Japanese patents Nintendo accused it of infringing on were centered on the gameplay mechanics of throwing balls–these are called Pal Spheres in Palworld–at creatures to catch them, riding characters in the game, and shooting at targets. In December, Pocketpair removed Pal Spheres from the game and Pals now appear alongside a player when summoned.
While the court case is ongoing, Pockeptpair continues to work on Palworld and has even re-released its 2019 PC game Overdungeon on Switch.
